Built in 2014 by Tallie Marine in St Helena Bay, the 13.9-meter-long Ocean Explorer is specifically designed for illuvial diamond mining. Weighing nearly 43 tons, it’s a true powerhouse. Imagine a machine built around a massive stern-mounted blower system, paired with a propeller usually found on 500-ton trawlers, capable of shifting sand at depths of 20 meters—all in the pursuit of uncovering diamonds that have been shaped, transported, and deposited by nature over millennia.
